Homestays in Pattaya:The real Thailand You’ve Been Missing

Pattaya, a name most people know. But there is so much more to this place than the bright lights everyone sees. And if you really want to know the heart of it, there is one way to experience it that stands above the rest: staying in a homestay.

Kung and I have been visiting Pattaya

for well over a decade. We know these roads, these beaches, these streets. We have watched places change, seen things come and go. Yet when we started looking properly into homestays, it felt like discovering a whole different city one we had walked past all those years without ever really seeing.

That is the first thing about homestays: they are not always obvious. You will not find big glowing signs out front like you do with the hotels. They are tucked down quiet lanes, blended into residential neighbourhoods, sitting beside ordinary homes. Unless you are actually looking for them, you just do not notice. But they are everywhere —and they are wonderful.

What makes them so special? For one thing, you get so much more space. A living area, somewhere to sit, a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals, a balcony to sit and watch the evening come in. It is not just a room to sleep in — it feels like a place to live. It saves you money too. You can pay half what a hotel would cost and have twice as much room. And the people you meet? Your hosts, their neighbours, the families who have lived there for years — they become part of your days in a way that never happens when you stay behind a hotel reception desk.

The best part? You do not always need to book weeks ahead. There are homestays available even on the day, if you keep your eyes open and ask around. It is not polished, it is not packaged up, but it is real.

Pattaya has beautiful beaches, incredible gardens, wonderful temples and views that will stay with you forever. But the greatest gift it offers is the warmth of the people who call it home. A homestay does not just give you somewhere to sleep — it opens the door to their world.

Travel smart, travel well.

Stay safe. Love you all. 💛
